The Limit of Heat (Chu Shu)is the best season to get rid of the dampness in human body

Today, it is Chushu or the season of Limit of Heat. It is the 14th of the 24 solar terms, it is on August 23th around and on that day the sun reaches 150 ° on the celestial longitude.
Chushu, according to the "seventy-two set of explanation of the Hou ","Chu means to end,chushu means the heat comes to an end now. " In other words, it comes to the end of summer, and autumn is coming now.

At the time of Chushu, it is turning cool from hot, now Yang is increasing while Yin is decreasing and it often rains,so the dampness is rather heavy and exists with heat together.

The regimen tips at Chushu

1. Adjust the living habit to recover from autumn fatigue and have one more hour of sleep

According to the theory of Yin and Yang, the condition of Yin and Yang in humanbody also changes with the changing weather. Therefore, frome the perspective of regimen or keeping healthy, we should adjust our living habits accordingly as well. We should have one more hour to sleep and ensure a quality nap every day, which enables us to keep energetic and conserve engergy and strength for the coming winter.

2. Drink more water to replenish body fluid, thereby preventing autumn-dryness

According to the Chinese medicine, autumn is a troublesome season, the climate at this time is in the period of transition---the Yang is decreasing while the Yin is increasing.  Between the beginning of the autumn and the Chushu,  the autumn sun is burning ragingly,  in addition, the autumn rain is frequent, which causes a very damp atmosphere. Thus, the weather at this time is characterized by damp and hot, therefore,called “autumn tiger”.

In this period, we should drink more water to replenish our body fluid. Besides drinking more water, tea, bean juice and so on, we should keep the environment where we live humid. The simplest way is planting some flowers and feeding some fishes in our houses, or spray some water on the ground and clean the floor with a wet mop in the morning and evening.

3. Focus on nourishing the spleen and stomach

After Chushu, the season enters into autumn, but the weather doesn’t start the real autumn mode yet, especially the temperature is still very high. We must face stuffy sauna days and thounder storm frequently in this period,so we should be still focused on preventing heat and eliminating dampness so as to nourish the spleen and stomach. Don’t have too much cold drink, but keep warm at night in order to prevent gastrointestinal diseases.

 The summer is now going away, our appetite is not very good yet. Therefore,we can not be crapulous, but we should eat less food that is cold or difficult to digest. Now, becauseit is still very hot and damp, it is suitable for us to eat the food that helps tonify the spleen, nourish the stomach and eliminate dampness, such as red soybean, barley rice, lotus seeds, lentils, wax gourd, poria and Poria cakes, etc.

4. Use moxa-moxibustion to eliminate coldness and replenish Yang Qi

Moxa-moxibustion can stimulate the body's meridian points with the buring wormwood, so that the circulation of the qi and blood in the meridian speed up to strengthen the nutrition in the internal organs and limbs, thereby fending off the cold dampness and complementing the Yang qi in human body, finally to achieve the purpose of preventing and resisting diseases.

The acupoints chosen to heat by moxa-moxibustion: Fengchi Point, Venezuela, Zusanli Point, Yongquan Point.

5. What to eat at Chushu?

 From the regimen point of view, at the time of Chushu, in addition to eating anti-dampness food, it is also suitable for us to eat anti-heat food that helps to soothe the nerves, such as white fungus (or white wood ear), lily, lotus seeds, honey, fish, scallops, seaweed, jellyfish, celery, spinach, sticky rice, beans and milk, but these foods can not be eaten too much once, we can eat more times with small share every time. 
Moreover, as the climate is gradually getting dry, then we can also eat Ziyin Runzao some food that is helpful to nourish Yin and dampen the dryness to prevent the injury by dry pathogen, such as pears, rock sugar, white fungus (white wood ear), adenophora, duck and so on, and these foods can help to nourish Yin and produce body fluid. Meanwhile we can take some astragalus root, codonopsis, cuttlefish, soft-shelled turtle and other health food that betters Qi.
